Van Helsing is a doctor/vampire and monster hunter. However, nobody knows about the vampire and monster part until later in Dracula when a character, Lucy, turns into a vampire. Van Helsing comes into the picture after Dr. Seward asks for his help with Lucy. At the time, nobody knew what was wrong with her. Van Helsing was Dr. Seward's mentor way back when. He knows exactly how to kill vampires and dispose of them. Go Van Helsing!
